DIY Crafts for Kids Things To Do With Kids In Quarantine
If you're working from home and your kids are stuck inside with you, creating a structured schedule will help keep your kids from getting bored (and you from going insane). If your kids are already enrolled in online classes or you've been homeschooling for the time being, adding in art education is simple. Don't think you have the resources on hand? Think again!
Here are some simple DIY arts and crafts that you can do with supplies you most likely have lying around the house:
- Collage - Supplies needed: old magazines, paper, scissors and tape or glue. Have your kids look through any old magazines, carefully help them cut out their favorite pictures and words. Then glue (or tape) it all together creatively on a piece of paper.
- Toilet Paper Rain Stick - Supplies needed: toilet paper rolls (or paper towel rolls), rice and/or beans, pipe cleaners or aluminum foil, tape and stickers or paint. You've most likely got an extra roll or two of toilet paper (or an extra bag or three). But don't throw away the empty tubes! Instead, make rainsticks with your children, a homemade acoustic toy that will keep them occupied for hours. You'll need to tape together your toilet paper rolls (3 for a smaller stick, and 4-5 for a larger one) and then tape one end closed. Place pipe cleaners or aluminum foil balls inside, then add in the dried rice and beans. Tape up the other end, and allow your kids to decorate the outside with paint or stickers. Once dry, the rainsticks are ready to use!
- Origami - If you're short on supplies, you likely have some printer or construction paper lying around. Grab a few sheets and look up easy origami instructions online for a lesson in both creativity and logic thinking.
- Still Life - While you've stocked up on fruits and veggies, allow your kids to express their inner artist by setting up a still life on the kitchen table. Get creative with other kitchen objects like bottles, pots and pans.
