Happy birthday to one of the most famous artists and the founder of impressionism, Claude Monet!
Oscar Claude Monet was born on November 14th, 1840 and lived until 1926 in France.
The term impressionism came from one of his works called Impression, Soleil Levant (sunrise).
His most famous works tended to be of various outdoor landscapes, such as The Magpie, depicting a snowscape, or his many versions of Water Lilies, based on his garden in Giverny where he spent the later part of his life. Some of his other works did include people as well, such as The Women in the Garden, and his works are great to introduce in art classes for kids.
