Happy birthday Gustav Klimt! Klimt was born on July 14th, 1862 in Baumgarten in what was then the Austrian empire. He lived until 1918, and is remembered as one of Austria’s most famous artists.

Klimt’s works included murals and sketches, and his favorite subject for his art was women. His style was heavily influenced by Japanese art.

One of his most famous works, The Kiss, was painted during what was called his “Golden Phase”, in which he added gold leaf to his paints.
