Happy birthday Keith Allen Haring on May 4th! Haring was a painter born in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1958, and living until 1990 he was famous for his drawings on New York Subways. His work grew out of the 1980 street culture of New York and featured various political and societal themes of the times. He saw global recognition in 1982 and went on to create various works for dance clubs and such, along with the backdrop of the Philadelphia stage for the Live Aid concert in 1985. He made his work easily available through his “Pop Shop” in Soho in 1986, making him one of a small number of famous artists to make his work commercially available.
